13 Powerful Bible verses about Jesus dying for our sins

1. Romans 5:10

Bible Verses about Jesus Dying for Our Sins 1

I find Romans 5:10, said by Paul, to be among the most inspiring Bible verses about Jesus dying for our sins.

By purely our own flesh, our sinful and rebellious nature thus means we are spiritually separated from our holy God, who is fully righteous without sin.

However, by Jesus’ loving death on our behalf, our sinful debts are paid – by God, for God! Through our faith in Christ, we are thus able to stand justified and reconciled before our heavenly Father with a verdict of ‘not guilty’. Not by our works but by His gift of life!

2. 1 John 2:1-2

Bible Verses about Jesus Dying for Our Sins 2

Where else in the Bible does it say Jesus died for our sins? Here’s another popular verse!

1 John 2:1-2 reminds us that we are still capable of sinning, even as believers – “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).

However, while we must always be vigilant to repent for our sins, John assures us that Jesus remains the righteous advocate who stands in for every true believer before our heavenly Father. By our faith in the Son of God, our debts of sin are fully paid.

3. 1 Peter 3:18

Bible verses about Jesus dying for our sins 3

Jesus didn’t just die painlessly for our sins. He endured immense suffering for our sakes! The Son of God was mercilessly mocked, tortured, and brutally killed.

Why did Jesus choose to be put through this? Simply because he loves his heavenly Father, to whom he is always obedient to – and he also loves every one of us, more than we can possibly imagine.

4. Isaiah 53:5 (among the most known prophetic Bible verses about Jesus dying for our sins)

Who is God?

Did you know the Old Testament contains many amazing prophecies that point clearly to the coming of Jesus as our Messiah? Incredible – seeing as it was written many, many years before Christ was even born on Earth.

I think arguably the most famous of these comes from Isaiah, a prophet who lived about 700 years before Jesus’ birth. In Isaiah 53, we see vivid descriptions of a Savior to come – which God later reveals in the New Testament to be His Son, who gives his life to redeem us from our transgressions.

The fulfilment of this specific prophecy is referenced by several apostles, including Peter.

“‘He himself bore our sins’ in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; ‘by his wounds you have been healed.'”

1 Peter 2:24

5. John 14:6

I am the Truth, the Life, and the Way

Jesus’ dying for our sins gave us the way to be reconciled with our heavenly Father. We can also trust that everything he says points to the eternal truth of God, who has chosen to save us from death through sin.

Without Jesus, we know it is impossible for us – by our own effort – to draw closer to God. John 14:6 is thus a humbling reminder for us to always be grateful to our loving Father, who chose to gift us the joy of having a relationship with Him. Amen!

6. 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 (among the clearest Bible verses about Jesus dying for our sins)

Paul the Apostle

This is among the clearest Bible verses about Jesus dying for our sins in all of scripture.

Addressing confusion in the church of Corinth, Paul restates the unchanging truth of the Gospel. Jesus came, died for our sins, and was buried for three days before his resurrection, as foretold by the Old Testament. In short, Paul does not leave anything to the imagination!

Let us always give our thanksgiving to God’s loving sacrifice to draw us closer to Him.

7. 2 Corinthians 5:18-19

Blessed are we that God would choose to reconcile us with Him

To be reconciled is for us to accept God’s loving gift to us, believing in Christ so that we may live in His righteous embrace. This ministry of reconciliation is thus a key part of our salvation, resting on our heartfelt faith and desire to be with Him.

As said, our sins separate us from our holy Father. But by the blood of Jesus, the Lamb of God, we as believers are adopted into God’s eternal family, “in accordance to His pleasure and will” (Ephesians 1:5).

8. John 15:13

John 15:13

I think this verse is all the more beautiful when read in its larger context.

In John 15:12-15, Jesus declares he no longer calls his followers servants, but sees the apostles (and all of us) as his friends. We are all friends of God if we choose to obey His commands (John 15:14-15).

Thus, when Jesus says there is no greater love than to die for one’s friends, we remember how the Son of God himself died for us.

In doing so, he shows the greatest love of all to every single one of us. Not just as our holy God, our sinless Messiah, but also as our closest and dearest friend.

Thank you Jesus for all you have given us.

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Jesus’ sacrifice doesn’t only reconcile us with God today. By our faith, his atonement pays our debt for all eternity, so that we may rest with our Father in heaven!

10. John 1:29

Bible verses about Jesus Dying for Our Sins 5

John the Baptist was both eccentric and honest. And I think it’s so wonderful how direct he was when he gazed upon Jesus, declaring him outrightly to be our eternal Messiah.

11. John 3:16 (one of the most beloved Bible verses about Jesus dying for our sins)

For God so loved the world

This is among the most quoted Bible verses of all-time – with good reason!

John 3:16 sums up the entire Gospel with tender words that shine the timeless truth of our Father’s loving sacrifice of his only begotten Son, for us.

12. Galatians 1:3-4

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

We live in a broken world, filled with chaos, anger, and other instruments of the enemy.

However, by God’s grace, we as believers are saved in Jesus, who carried out the most amazing rescue mission of all-time!
