Jesus Feeding the 5000 | What can we learn from this Bible miracle?

Recorded across all four Gospels, Jesus feeding the 5000 shows us how the Son of God miraculously multiplied five bread loaves and two fish to nourish a multitude of people.

“Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?” … Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those [the great crowd] who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish.

What can we learn from Jesus feeding the 5000?

Jesus feeding the 5000 2

1) Just as the boy’s humble offering was used by Jesus in feeding the 5000, GOD invites all believers to participate in His kingdom work.

First, GOD welcomes all His children to work with Him in feeding others. Put simply, if a young boy can do his part, you can, too! GOD invites each of us to spread the goodness of His heavenly kingdom.

This can sometimes include giving physical food to people in need. But, on a deeper level, it also means being willing to share the Good News of JESUS to help feed the spiritual hunger of others – which all are free to do!

2) Trust Jesus to multiply the impact of what you share with others.

The boy didn’t have much. However, he was willing to put his faith in Jesus with what he did have. By trusting the Son of God, the boy thus played a participating role in Jesus’ miraculous work of multiplying the food.

Jesus feeding the 5000 3

GOD does great life-changing things for others when we entrust Him with whatever resources we have (food, time, money, skills, etc. – even giving our testimony of faith). In short, He is able to multiply the physical / spiritual impact of what we share to glorify His kingdom!

All of this begins when we learn to trust Him with a heart ready to sow.

2 Corinthians 9:6

3) Put God first – and things will fall in place.

The boy sincerely surrendered what he had to Jesus. In turn, Jesus fed everyone. This also includes the boy himself!

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

Matthew 6:33

When we put GOD first, we can trust that He will also take care of us. By His love and grace, He will bless His children with what we need to lead joyous and fulfilling lives as we bring glory to Him.

Don’t give God the ‘leftover’ of your time and attention; instead, let us all humbly seek to prioritize His will in our hearts over our own fleshly desires.
